Life cycle inventory of samarium-cobalt permanent magnets, compared to neodymium-iron-boron as used in electric vehicles

چکیده
Abstract Electric vehicles are sometimes marketed unambiguously as low-carbon technologies; however, they often contain less ‘clean’ ingredients, such rare earth permanent magnets. In fact, high-performance magnets in electric use neodymium. Alternatively, more costly samarium-cobalt can be used. this paper, life cycle assessment is used to compare the primary production routes of both neodymium-iron-boron and terms environmental impact. For magnets, first detailed inventory published date. addition, we provide an updated neodymium-iron-boron, expanded with recent literature some industry data. We conclude that not preferable impact, from a cradle-to-gate perspective. A sensitivity analysis uncertainty show while there uncertain parameters studies, range tends slightly higher for samarium-cobalt.

The durability of parylene coatings on neodymium-iron-boron magnets.
A parylene coating is frequently used to prevent corrosion of neodymium-iron-boron magnets when they are used intra-orally. This in vitro study was designed to test the durability of parylene coating in a simulated oral environment. Single and double parylene-coated magnets were subjected to grinding and crushing forces in an industrial ball mill. The results demonstrate that abrasion and wear ...
متن کاملRare-earth Permanent Magnets: New Magnet Materials and Applications
The introduction of rare-earth permanent magnets based on samarium-cobalt in about 1970, and neodymium-iron-boron magnets in the mid-nineteen eighties, has ushered in a new era in hard magnetic materials. This has resulted in a dramatic improvement in permanent magnet performance, with neodymium-iron-boron (Nd2Fe14B) magnets having a magnetic energy product up to an order of magnitude greater t...

Impaction and non-eruption of teeth is a common problem encountered in orthodontics and many techniques have been proposed for the management of this condition. It has been advocated that a system utilizing magnets would supply a continuous, directionally sensitive, extrusive force, through closed mucosa and thus provide not only a physiological sound basis for successful treatment, but also re...
